Compare Australian mattresses – popular Australian mattresses under $4,000

A recent survey revealed up to 45% of Australian adults experience inadequate sleep 1 .

And, while buying the right mattress can solve some people's sleep problems, shopping for a new mattress can be overwhelming. Part of the problem is there is too much choice, and every brand says its mattress is the best and the most comfortable.

It can be challenging to know which brand to trust. It is also difficult to know which mattress is right for you.

At KING, we sell premium modular mattresses crafted from high-quality materials. The modular design allows you to customise your mattress to deliver personalised comfort and support. While this is how we choose to craft our mattresses, we also recognise many Australian brands craft quality mattresses differently from us.

It is important the mattress you buy is right for you, stands the test of time and delivers exceptional comfort and support. While we're confident our Sleep+ Mattresses are among the best on the market, we feel it is important you are informed about other mattress options. We have created an honest comparison of some of the best Australian mattresses under $4,000.

This article will help you know what to look for in a new mattress, understand mattress terminology and allow you to make an informed decision about which mattress under $4,000 is best for you.

What do you look for when choosing a mattress?

Have you ever asked or Googled, 'what should you look for when buying a mattress?'

Buying a mattress is complicated. There are a lot of jargon words, and it can be difficult to understand the complex mattress terminology.

Before comparing different mattresses, it can help to understand the different mattress materials, technology and features, so you know what to look for.

  • Memory foam – the mattress features varying layers of high-density foam.
  • Latex – resembling a foam material, latex can be in a synthetic form or naturally processed from the liquid of rubber trees.
  • Innerspring – the mattress core features a network of steel coils and a metal wire system surrounded by layers of foam and cushioning.
  • Pocket springs – the mattress core features spring coils individually encased in a fabric pocket.
  • Hybrid combines memory foam or latex with spring coils.
  • Maximum pressure relief – a mattress offering maximum pressure relief will distribute your weight evenly to ensure your body is supported.
  • Partner disturbance and zoning – the springs or foam are zoned across the mattress to help minimise motion or partner disturbance.
  • Airflow and breathability temperature regulation technology and perforated comfort layers or mattress covers promote airflow and breathability, which helps reduce heat retention.
  • Firmness mattress firmness is how soft or firm your mattress is.

Find your perfect mattress

While a new mattress is a significant investment and key furniture decision, investing in the right mattress can help you sleep better2.

As with any major furniture investment, you will benefit from reading reviews, researching popular brands and visiting Showrooms. To purchase a Sleep+ Mattress, you can visit a KING Showroom, shop online, or book a consultation to speak with one of our experts who can assist you with customising your mattress for the perfect night's sleep.

Having learnt about mattress materials and compared some of Australia's leading mattress brands, you can make an informed decision about your mattress investment. We highly recommend lying down on different mattresses to really experience the comfort and support each mattress offers.

While many mattress retailers offer risk-free trial periods, not all mattress retailers have Showrooms, and this is something you may need to consider when looking for a mattress that's right for you.
